About Us

Hollis Fay created Farm Kitchen, starting with a dream of building a place where community and good food converge. She brought her Alaska-bred resourcefulness to the proposition of turning a cow palace (read "run-down barn") into a clean and spacious commercial quality kitchen. With the Kitchen, she dreamed that North Puget Sound people who loved food would gather - to cook, create, build food businesses, or happily indulge in those yummy orange rolls sold on Saturdays.

Hollis learned to bake in a cabin she built as a 17 year old while working on the Alaska Pipeline. Her cooking genes were insured by the culinary excellence of a creative mom who designed gourmet meals routinely in the dark of Alaska winters. With her marine biologist father, Hollis expanded her culinary horizons on research trips.

While living in Boston and Seattle, she started her food production career. After a detour through land surveying jobs, she created Bainbridge Bakers, which became a center of the community before she sold it eleven years later.

The Farm Kitchen dream became reality, with much sweat equity, and continues to expand. The people who create food and local businesses in Farm Kitchen, and those who visit each Saturday, are the people who make Farm Kitchen a unique story of community. As they gather to share their lives and the pleasures of simple and good food, they make roots which go deep in the Farm Kitchen garden.
